My June Challenge

A few years ago I decided that I wanted to take a break from the things that were keeping me from living more fully. For a month I did not check my social media accounts or post any form of updates. This technology cleanse became an annual part of my life. For one month a year, I step away from social media, I delete all of the apps off of my phone that aren't essential, and I take a break from Netflix and Hulu. It is always one of my favorite "resets" and reminds me that life did exist before everyone knew about it.

This year I am taking things to the next level. June is month two of my social media and digital apps cleanse. In addition to this, I created a list of all of the things I WON'T be doing and all of the things I WILL be doing instead.

What I will NOT be doing:

  • Engaging in social media
  • Watching TV shows
  • Spending money on non-essentials
  • Playing on phone apps
  • Eating out
What I WILL be doing instead:
  • Engaging in self-care
  • Reading books
  • Finding ways to reach financial freedom
  • Playing outdoors
  • Experimenting with recipes
As with most things...there are some exceptions to these rules. I can still watch movies but plan on keeping that to the weekends, I can eat out if someone else is paying, and my only "non-essentials" are things I had already planned on spending money on (cousin's graduation, Father's Day, etc.).

Along with the rest of my guidelines, I am limiting myself to one grocery run day a week. This is due to the fact that I have a tendency to go back to the store multiple times during the week to grab this and that.

Writing here is part of my self-care. I have always enjoyed writing, but always say I don't have time for it. Well...I am making time for it. They always say that we make time for the things we want to make time for...and this is the best time to do that.

I'm excited to see what all this month will hold and what all I will take away with me into the rest of the year.
